THE WHITTAKER FAUNTLEROY MIXED-USE : GIVEN THAT THIS IS THE LARGEST MIXED-USE PROJECT TO-DATE IN WEST SEATTLE AND FRONTING ON FOUR CITY STREETS INCLUDING FAUNTERLOY AVE AND ALASKA STREET, THE BUILDING WAS CAREFULLY DESIGNED TO MEET THE PEDESTRIAN AND MASSING NEEDS OF EACH ORIENTATION. A THRU-BLOCK CONNECTOR WAS ADDED FOR PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICULAR CONVENIENCE AND TO TAKE THE SERVICE REQUIREMENTS OFF THE SURROUNDING STREETS. THE ALASKA / FAUNTLEROY INTERSECTION IS CONSIDERED TO BE THE “GATEWAY” TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THEREFORE WAS DESIGNED TO BE AN ICONIC ELEMENT, ANGLED TO THE APPROACH FROM FAUNTLEROY AVENUE. ENTITLEMENTS INCLUDED NOT ONLY THE DESIGN REVIEW BOARD PROCESS, BUT ALSO AN ALLEY VACATION / DESIGN COMMISSION APPROVAL, AND NUMEROUS COMMUNITY GROUP MEETINGS. - CONSTRUCTION TO COMMENCE IN 2014
